Veneers are very thin layers of porcelain (as thin as 0.3mm) which when bonded to the teeth can restore their original anatomy and colour. We can also use them when we want o change the shape of the teeth for some reason, as it happens with naturally small teeth. It's a fantastic option for those whose teeth have suffered from wear, fractures, have been heavily restored with composite or simply have inadequate anatomy.
The technique used is mainly addictive, not reductive, meaning it is indicated when we need to add shape, not reduce it. It's great for teeth with spaces in between, teeth that are smallish or that are missing parts, as it happens with wear. They're not great to improve crowding, as this would involve too much trimming in most cases.
Some people ask how can they last if they're so thin? The thing is that they last because they are thin! If correctly bonded, they will be extremely resistant and in reality there's no dental treatment with greater long term success rate. They can last for decades.
